This sample project illustrates AGX Engineering's approach to documenting modular guarding panels for conveyor drives and rotating equipment. Guarding documentation of this type is commonly required during equipment installation and upgrade programmes in manufacturing, mining, and processing facilities.
The guard set covers a four-panel arrangement around a belt conveyor head drive section — two fixed perimeter panels, one hinged access panel, and a removable top inspection panel. Each panel is framed in 40 × 40 × 3 SHS mild steel with welded wire mesh infill and fastens to the conveyor structure via captive nut inserts.
The Challenge
Problem and Requirements
Drive sections on conveyors require robust, removable guarding that allows maintenance access without removing the entire guard assembly. Fixed panels are typically welded frames with mesh infill, while access panels need positive retention in the closed position and clear opening instructions for operators.
This example brief required the guard documentation to identify each panel uniquely, specify the mesh aperture and wire diameter, and include a panel schedule summarising dimensions, mass estimates, and fixing specifications.
Our Approach
Engineering Solution
AGX Engineering produced fabrication drawings for each of the four guard panels, with frame construction details, mesh weld pattern callouts, hinge and latch specifications for the access panel, and a panel schedule. The drawings reference the conveyor structure mounting points and include a general arrangement showing the complete guard assembly in context.
DXF files were produced for the laser-cut frame blanks and hinge plates, with cut profiles and folding instructions included. The panel schedule was formatted for direct handover to the fabricator as a purchasing and production document.
