This sample project illustrates AGX Engineering's approach to producing fabrication drawings for a series of pipe support brackets. Pipe support brackets are among the most frequently requested fabrication drawing items in industrial, mechanical services, and process plant environments — with multiple bracket types often required across a single project.
The example set covers three bracket types — a riser clamp bracket, a horizontal span bracket, and an anchor bracket — each with two or three dimensional variants. The drawings are structured to enable efficient workshop fabrication across the full range from a single document set.
The Challenge
Problem and Requirements
Projects requiring pipe support brackets often involve multiple similar-but-different bracket types, each with slight dimensional variations to suit different pipe sizes, spans, or structural connection points. Managing these efficiently in a drawing set — without creating one drawing per variant — requires good use of drawing tables and variant callouts.
This example brief required three bracket families across seven size variants, all referenced to common structural attachment details. The fabricator needed both individual bracket drawings and a master schedule identifying which variants were required for each support location.
Our Approach
Engineering Solution
AGX Engineering produced a family drawing for each bracket type, with a tabulated variant schedule listing dimensions and quantities for each size. Weld sizes and fillet lengths were called out consistently across all bracket types, and base plate hole patterns were dimensioned from a common datum to simplify structural drilling.
The BOM was structured to allow direct material procurement from a single purchase order, with bracket designations coordinated with the installation schedule provided by the site team.
What Was Produced
Deliverables
All documentation was produced to a professional standard so the client's supply chain could work from it directly.
- Bracket general arrangement drawing (3 types, 7 variants)
- Individual bracket fabrication drawings with weld schedule
- Variant schedule with dimensions and quantities
- Bill of materials for direct material procurement
- PDF drawing set for site installation reference
