This sample project illustrates AGX Engineering's approach to redrawn and revising legacy fabrication drawings. Many manufacturing and fabrication businesses hold decades of documentation on paper or in low-quality scanned PDFs — drawings that are difficult to read, impossible to revise cleanly, and unsuitable for modern CNC and laser cutting workflows.
The example covers a set of six legacy steelwork drawings for a conveyor structure, originally drawn by hand and scanned to low-resolution PDF. The drawings were redrawn in AutoCAD and SolidWorks, incorporating a set of dimensional changes requested by the operations team, and re-issued in both PDF and DWG formats.
The Challenge
Problem and Requirements
The original drawings were available only as scanned paper prints at 150 dpi — adequate for visual reference but not for dimensioned redrawing or DXF extraction. Three of the six drawings had handwritten mark-up annotations indicating design changes that had been implemented in the field but never incorporated into the drawing set.
The workshop required the complete revised drawing set before commencing a fabrication run for replacement sections of the conveyor structure, and needed the drawings in DWG format for direct import into their CAD-driven cutting equipment.
Our Approach
Engineering Solution
AGX Engineering redrawn each of the six drawings in AutoCAD from the scanned originals, resolving ambiguous dimensions through cross-referencing between drawings and confirmed dimensions against available field measurements. Handwritten mark-up changes were incorporated into the redrawn geometry, with each change flagged in a revision history block added to the drawing title block.
The redrawn drawings were issued at the same scale and sheet size as the originals, with a transmittal record identifying each drawing's current revision and a summary of the changes incorporated. PDF and DWG files were issued simultaneously.
What Was Produced
Deliverables
All documentation was produced to a professional standard so the client's supply chain could work from it directly.
- Redrawn drawing set in AutoCAD (×6 drawings)
- Revision history blocks updated with change descriptions
- PDF issue set for workshop reference
- DWG files for direct use in CAD-driven cutting equipment
- Transmittal record with revision summary
